The ideas of these works are centered on my being but their expressions are universal. As I attempt to express myself in my work, our society finds an expression instead.
Being born and brought up in a small town I had to struggle constantly with the city life, and still struggling against the conventional ideas of life. ………..
Nature gives whatever human being wants form Her, and She punishes us for our deeds – this is my belief.
Biography
Sumana akter (1983) is a Dhaka-based artist and lecturer at the Narayanganj Fine Art Institute. She did her MFA in Drawing and Painting in 2010 at the Fine Art faculty of the University Development alternative UODA. In 2012 her 1st solo exhibition My Nature was held at the Dhaka art center. She took part in a Video Art workshop at BRITT O SPACE and Curator Mahbubur Rahman 7 day 2013, 10 days long performance art workshop organized by Samdani Art Foundation Curator Nikhil Chopra , Another performance art workshop by Seiji Shimoda at Porapara Space for Artist and also a residency there organized by CRAC residency for 6 week in 2010. Sumana received all media best award BFA Narayanan Fine Art Institute 2005 and a special award MFA 4th Annual art Exhibition UODA 2010. Her work has won her honorable mentions in the 19th young Artist Art exhibition 2014, organized by BANGLADESH SHILPAKALA ACADEMY. She finished recent some group show, workshop, and performance national and international exhibition. Recently Sumana was part of the curatorial team of online per formative image exhibition 2016(http://www.photopeer.com/HVDD.html) and part of the curatorial team Kolkata international performance art festival 2017 & 2018 . Sumana also organize a virtual space with my international colleague, the site we called as appreciation of art performance
